UPDATE Monday, August 10, 4 p.m. - Cal Fire has reported that the wildfire in De Luz is now 100 percent contained at 55 acres.

UPDATE 3/ Monday, August 10, 9:30 a.m. - As of 5 a.m. this morning, Cal Fire has reported that the wildfire in De Luz is being held at 40 acres and is now 50 percent contained. Fire crews continue to work toward full containment and monitor hot spots. During the early part of the fire, a stretch of De Luz and De Luz Murrieta roads near the Santa Margarita Truck Trail were initially closed to non-resident traffic. At this time, the southern end of the closure has since been reopened, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 2 / Sunday, August 9, 8:52 p.m. - At around 6:05 p.m., the fire had grown to 40 acres, according to a statement by Nick Schuler, division chief for Cal Fire, who also mentioned that the fire was already contained by 10 percent, and it had been stopped from further spreading. Schuler also mentioned that the vegetation fire that was reported at around 3:20 p.m. had spread rapidly, putting several homes in danger, however a quick response had saved all structures at risk from being damaged.

At the time of this update, 8:52 p.m., crews continue to work on containment, although there are just a few burning spots remaining. Approximately 200 firefighters from Cal Fire San Diego are working on the fire, both by air and ground. Six air tankers and four helicopters were deployed to fight the fire.

UPDATE 1/ Sunday, August 9, 7 p.m. - The brush fire in the De Luz area has now grown to 35-acres and is about five miles north of downtown Fallbrook. Smoke has been very visible from downtown Fallbrook.

A brush fire with a rapid spread broke out in DeLuz between Camp Pendleton and Fallbrook today. The blaze started at 39431 De Luz Road around 3 p.m., Cal Fire Public Information Office Kendal Bortisser said.

Initially, it started at 10 acres in size but quickly grew to 20 in a half-hour. At present it is at 35 acres. Structures were immediately threatened.

The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire closed down the portion of De Luz/De Luz Murrieta road near the creek and the Santa Margarita Truck Trail.
