Man bitten by shark off San Diego coast

SAN DIEGO - A man bitten by a shark was recovering today, August 13, following an airlift rescue from a boat about 100 miles off the San Diego coast.

Just after 8 a.m. Monday, Coast Guard officials received a report of a 58-year-old man bitten on the right hand by hammerhead shark. The man was reportedly diving when he was attacked.

An EMT onboard the passenger vessel performed basic first aid before the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter arrived on the scene, officials said.

The victim was airlifted at about 10 a.m. and arrived in San Diego shortly before 11 a.m.
