Fahnestock celebrates 102 years

FALLBROOK – Fred Fahnestock celebrated his 102nd birthday on Jan. 9. Friends, neighbors and family joined him in the celebration.

Fahnestock is a WWll veteran who served in the 8th Air Force, 458 Bomber Group over Europe. He was a Staff Sergeant flying in a B-24 Liberator as the tail gunner. He flew 31 missions and was decorated with the Flying Cross and was over Normandy on D-Day.

Fahnestock celebrated his 75th wedding anniversary with his wife Jessie in 2013, just two months before her passing. He has lived in Fallbrook for 15 years.
