CAMP PENDLETON - Crews labored to subdue a rash of brush fires that blackened swaths of open land at Camp Pendleton.
The three blazes began spreading at the Marine Corps station near Oceanside late Tuesday afternoon, according to base officials.
As of late Wednesday morning, firefighters had contained one of the blazes at 120 acres and another at a half-acre, Camp Pendleton's public-affairs office reported.
A third, dubbed the Juliet Fire, was 80 percent surrounded. That blaze in the Juliet training area, near Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook Annex, scorched about 50 acres, authorities said.
No structural damage or injuries were reported.
It was unclear what sparked the fires.
