My 19 year-old daughter, a college soccer player, had been diagnosed with sesamoiditis – inflammation of the sesamoid tendon underneath the big toe – by our family physician who specializes in sports medicine. It is commonly known in the sports world as "turf toe" and is accompanied by a great amount of pain, rendering some players unable to play for weeks at a time.
