Melvin Bernard Grossman passed away on August 28, 2018, at the age of 81, surrounded by family and friends.
Mel is survived by Sandra, his wife of 59 years; sons Scott (Sumi), Douglas (Kimberly), and Terrence; four grandchildren, Jenna, Kevin, Evelynn, and Jack; brother Harry (Karen), and many relatives and dear friends.
Mel was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and started his career as a teacher and then moved into insurance sales. He advanced to manager and moved to Detroit in that capacity. He went on to hold many positions in finance after becoming a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant.
After retiring, Mel and Sandi moved to California to be closer to family and to show Tennessee Walking Horses. Mel was a family man, enjoying camping, boating, and raising golden retrievers. In later years, collecting unique pipes, listening to bluegrass, and waxing his Prowler show car, were Mel’s favorite activities.
A private service was held at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
