Chains or traction devices are required on vehicles traveling on northbound and southbound state Route 79 from Julian to Sunrise Highway due to snow, according to Caltrans San Diego. 4x4s and all-wheel-drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels are allowed. But all vehicles must carry chains.
