Fallbrook to observe Day of the Dead

Please join us in observing the Day of the Dead celebration in Fallbrook this coming Saturday, Oct. 30, from 2-6 p.m. at the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery, 1177 Santa Margarita Drive.

This will be a community reunion to honor loved ones, ancestors and traditions. This event is organized by the community for the community and may be one of the only Day of the Dead celebrations in San Diego County taking place at a cemetery. For this reason and out of respect for our deceased buried there, we are observing this event as a community reunion and not as a festival. This also implies that no selling will be allowed.

There will be food, cultural performances, activities for children, lowriders and classic cars from local residents, as well as a community altar. We are accepting donations to help cover the cost and the sustainment of the event. Everyone involved in the planning and production of this event is volunteering their time.

We ask that you please bring your own chairs, blankets, and some food to share. Please know that a section of the cemetery does not have grass as they are in the middle of planting new grass.

We also invite you to decorate your loved ones’ grave sites. The cemetery will leave decorations up between Thursday, Oct. 28 and Wednesday, Nov. 10. If your loved ones are resting elsewhere, we will have a community altar where you can place a small picture, favorite items of your loved ones, a small vase of flowers, whatever you think will appropriately and lovingly honor them. Please do not bring original pictures or items of value as it will be outdoors and subjected to the elements of wind and rain. We are planning on leaving the community altar up until after Nov. 2.

We would also like to express our gratitude for the many local businesses and organizations who have contributed to making this event a reality. To learn more about the program, our sponsors and the event please find us on Facebook by searching for Fallbrook Dia de Muertos.

If you are interested in being a volunteer or offering a donation please communicate with us at 760-207-.2451 or 760-468-4519.
