Reuben Hofshi

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Reuben Hofshi, passed into glory on Aug. 13, 2024. He was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1943 to Baruch and Rachel Abed, but as a youth, changed his surname to Hofshi, which means "Living Freedom."

Reuben had been a resident of Fallbrook since 1975. He was a great lover of agriculture, particularly avocados, and a visionary for avocado research and the avocado industry. In addition to numerous other contributions to the industry, he initiated the AvocadoSource web site as a means of making avocado-related literature and research articles available world-wide.

Reuben had a great love for his family and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeannine, two sisters (Irit Menashe and Gila Gilad), five children (Shanti Hofshi and wife Heather, Eli Hofshi and wife Silvia, Lila Yetz and husband Jason, Danny Hofshi and wife Taylor, David Hofshi and wife Aysha), 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was loved much and will be missed much. And most of all, Reuben accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. This experience led to change in his life that was evident to all who knew him.

"Does not (The Good Shepherd) leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it?" Matthew 18:12

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36
