Our high school students deserve better facilities

I am writing to express my support for Proposition BB, the local bond to repair and renovate Fallbrook Union High School. As a graduate and a local property tax payer, I feel deeply disturbed that our community continues to whine about “higher taxes” while our schools crumble.

This month my class will gather for our 60th high school reunion. We were taught in those very brick classrooms built in the 50’s. We love our memories, but the current students deserve a school that can support the technology of today. Our students and educators deserve air conditioned spaces and roofs that do not leak. Student athletes deserve locker rooms and facilities that are not classified as Mid Century.

The current bond proposal will add $24 per each $100,000 of assessed property value. I have done the math on my assessment and have calculated the annual increase in our bill would total about $81 per year. That’s about .22 cents a day. It is time Fallbrook residents stopped whining about taxes and started spending to make the Fallbrook schools the pride of the county, not the butt of jokes.
