In just a few days, Lucette Moramarco, Editor for the Village Newspaper (VN) will be moving away. Lucette has had two careers. The first as a preschool teacher and the second job spanned the last 18 years – at the newspaper.
A celebration was held in her honor on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the office lobby. That said, there was a wee delay caused by a minor calamity. As it happened, the electric tea pots knocked out the breaker that powered the computers during the online transmission to the printer. (Oopsee).
Naturally this caused the Guest of Honor to be delayed along with the Man-of-the-Hour-production manager Forest Rhodes who steadfastly stayed at task until the transmission for next week’s paper was completed, freeing the rest of us to munch cucumber sandwiches and sip a cuppa.
Standing elbow to elbow we chanted “speech, speech.” until Lucette told us about her 18 years of employment. A woman of few words she said, “The time went fast.”
Lucette went on to say that her twin sister Suzanne had the necessary maps to route them to their brother’s house in Arizona who will then help them plan their eastward route through the South while enjoying some sightseeing along the way.
Their final destination is to live in the south eastern part of North Carolina near the coast where their sister lives in Wilmington. Which is when she revealed “They did not suffer from the recent tropical storm and their family is safe.”
As the beating heart of this community, VN is our only source of reliable local news. It reports on our children’s FFA winners, their scholastic achievements, our beauty queens, plus practically every field event, often sending a reporter and photographer, to cover everything from basketball, golf, soccer, football and water polo spanning ages from elementary through high school.
The paper sends photographers to ribbon cuttings and art showings. Under Lucette’s guidance, writers cover social news, charity events, current events, entertainment, everything from horse races to politics. They write stories about the bravery of our firefighters, sheriffs, and military.
VN publishes editorials, personal opinions, legal postings, liquor licenses, and want ads where you can find a job, sell a car, post a business license, or give away a cat.
The Village Newspaper is indeed the heart of Fallbrook and for the past 18 years, Lucette Moramarco has had her hand on the pulse. Au revoir and Vaya con Dios.
